The Swiss Alps

The Swiss Alps are iconic – Matterhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau among them. But there’s so much more beyond these instantly recognised summits. There are little-known mountains and valleys, pastures and passes, romantic alp hamlets, tumbling glaciers. And lakes that turn mountains on their heads. Peaks, faces and ridges for climbing; thousands of kilometres of trails for walking. A wonderland for anyone who loves high places.

The Swiss Alps provides near-comprehensive cover of each range of mountains within the Swiss Alps, describing practically every valley in turn with its prospects for walking, climbing and ski mountaineering. The Swiss Alps took six years to write, but research began with my first visit in the 1960s; a labour of love to create a unique resource for all with an active interest in one of the most exciting mountain arenas in Europe.
