Tour Of The Vanoise

Perhaps you fancy a mountain holiday trekking in the Alps? If so, let me recommend some terrific multi-day tours.

For example, the TOUR OF THE VANOISE.

Making almost a figure of eight tour of the Vanoise National Park in the Graian Alps of France (just south of Mont Blanc), this scenically exciting walk takes about 11 or
12 days, with accommodation most nights in mountain refuges built either by the national park authorities, or the French Alpine Club. In the early summer meadows of Alpine flowers add colour to your days. No doubt you'll see plenty of marmots, chamois and ibex, while snow-capped mountains dazzle in countless tranquil lakes.

The Tour of the Vanoise trek begins at Modane in the Maurienne, and climbs straight up the hillside to Refuge de l'Orgère below the Aiguille Doran. The next four days journey from hut to hut well above the valley in view of glaciers, snowfields, lakes and waterfalls, before descending to Bonneval-sur-Arc. Day seven involves crossing a 2764 m / 9068 ft col on the way to Val d'Isère, then by way of Col de la Leisse to another refuge tucked below the cliffs of La Grande Motte. Crossing the heart of the region at Col de la Vanoise on day nine, the tour comes down to Pralognan, then upvalley to another hut on the way to the highest pass of all, the 2796 m / 9173 ft Col de Chavière which returns the route to Modane. Yes, the Tour of the Vanoise is a great walk.
