Straddling the borders of Eastern Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein, the limestone Rätikon Alps reach into the snow-bound and glacier-hung Silvretta Alps to provide a richly diverse series of landscapes. With numerous alpine huts and berghausen all set in idyllic locations this is one of the finest districts in which to make a variety of hut-to-hut tours.
Trekking in the Silvretta & Rätikon Alps guidebook describes three multi-day treks, plus a dozen short routes and the ascent of a couple of summits, all of which makes a perfect introduction to the area. The 7-8 day Tour of the Silvretta Alps, and the 7-day Rätikon Höhenweg are circular routes that stray across international boundaries, while the 5-day Prättigauer Höhenweg is a spectacular linear route that remains on the Swiss flank of the mountains throughout.
Easy to reach by public transport, the Silvretta and Rätikon Alps reward all who enjoy the challenge of drifting from hut to hut among comparatively little-known, but utterly charming, mountains.
