George Band, who wrote the review quoted above, made the first ascent of KANGCHENJUNGA, the world's third highest mountain, with Joe Brown in 1955.
Kangchenjunga:Located in the far north-eastern corner of Nepal, on the border with Sikkim, Kangchenjunga is a huge mountain massif with five summits and as many great glaciers dominating a spur that projects southward from the main Himalayan axis. Long considered sacred, its Tibetan name has been translated as 'The Five Treasuries of the Great Snows'.
Trekking to the north base camp (Pang Pema) is an amazing journey through an avenue of sky-scratching peaks. The south base camp area of Oktang beside the Yalung glacier is no less exciting. But joining one route with the other across three interlinking passes, makes for one of the most stimulating and challenging treks of all.
